I’m drawn to ideas that feel a little unexpected and unorthodox. Whether I’m shooting, editing, or experimenting with mixed media, I’m always looking for a way to make the film more interesting than the obvious version of it.

I do not often get to make a project with my brother, so I knew I had to make this one count. It was my first major attempt at mixed-media and hand-drawn techniques, and it took a lot of planning, scheduling, and separate stages to finish. The process took forever, but every bit of that time paid off. I especially enjoyed lighting the piano and guitar scenes, and this is probably the most visually impressive project I have made so far.

I usually start with a visual idea, then figure out how far I can push it through the shoot, the edit, or whatever experiment comes next. A lot of the work happens in the small decisions between the first idea and the final frame.
